The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully rescued a two-year-old girl who was trafficked from Abuja to Aba and sold for ₦100,000.
In a statement issued on Friday, NAPTIP revealed that the child—given the alias Chiamaka Favor—was rescued on May 8, 2025, by the agency’s Abia State Command in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS).
The alleged trafficker was apprehended in Abia by DSS operatives and subsequently transferred to NAPTIP for further investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect may be connected to three different human trafficking rings operating from Abuja.
“The arrested individual is suspected of collaborating with multiple trafficking groups based in Abuja and allegedly sold the toddler for ₦100,000,” the statement said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
NAPTIP reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling all trafficking networks involved in the case and to prosecuting everyone responsible. The rescued girl is currently under the care of the agency, receiving necessary protection and support services.
