Students from Unity Model School in Asaba, Delta State, were reportedly made to write one of their WAEC exams late in the evening under poor conditions, using torchlight due to a lack of electricity.
A video shared online shows the students in a dimly lit classroom during the exam, filmed by an unidentified woman. In the footage, she criticizes the school authorities for allowing such a situation.
According to her, the exam was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., but the papers didn’t arrive until 6 p.m., forcing the students to write in the dark. With no power in the school, a torchlight was used to illuminate the room.
“It’s not OK,” she says in the video, expressing concern for the students. She further remarked that even in earlier times, when lanterns were common, students were never subjected to such conditions.
