A deadly accident occurred Wednesday morning along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, close to the Sango-Ota tollgate, leaving three people dead and six others injured. The incident, which took place at approximately 7:45 a.m., involved five vehicles, according to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).
TRACE’s South-West Area Commander, Adekunle Ajibade, confirmed the details, explaining that the crash was caused by a cement truck traveling at high speed. The truck, which reportedly had no license plate, suffered brake failure while approaching the tollgate from the Sango-Ota axis. As a result, the driver lost control, and the vehicle collided with four other vehicles.
The six injured individuals sustained various levels of injury and are currently receiving treatment at Ifo General Hospital. The bodies of the deceased have also been taken to the hospital’s morgue.
Ajibade advised motorists to conduct proper vehicle maintenance and avoid speeding or reckless driving, emphasizing the importance of road safety to prevent avoidable tragedies. He also noted that the affected vehicles have been cleared from the expressway, and traffic has returned to normal.
