The death toll from the building collapse in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State has increased to three, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that three individuals trapped under the debris were found deceased.
He reported that nine adult males were rescued and received immediate medical care from LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit.
“After receiving emergency alerts at 2:02 p.m., LASEMA activated the state’s emergency response protocol from its Agbowa and Alausa units,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.
He noted that upon arriving at the scene by 2:40 p.m., response teams discovered that a two-storey structure under construction had collapsed, trapping several people beneath the rubble.
Search and rescue operations remain ongoing, he said, adding that the recovered bodies have been handed over to the Igbogbo Police Division.
The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined. Authorities have secured the site and put safety protocols in place to prevent further risk.
