A 70-year-old man, Adamu Yakubu, has been taken into custody by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly killing his 45-year-old sister, Hannatu Hashimu, during a quarrel over family inheritance.
The tragic incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2025, in Galadanchi village, located in Dutse Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Friday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, explained that the suspect reportedly struck his sister with a stick during a fierce argument regarding the division of family land.
Adam stated that the disagreement escalated from a verbal exchange to physical violence, during which the suspect allegedly attacked Hannatu.
Following the assault, the victim managed to return to her matrimonial home but collapsed shortly afterward. She was rushed to Dutse General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her death.
The police spokesperson added that Yakubu had been apprehended and was assisting with the ongoing investigation. The stick allegedly used in the assault has been recovered and is being held as evidence.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
