Daniel Chukwu, a 75-year-old man,has been reported missing after he accompanied his family to the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, on June 25, 2025.

His daughter, Onyinye, explained that Chukwu had joined her and her mother on a hospital visit for the medical assessment of her younger brother. However, due to the hospital’s policy that permits only two individuals inside the emergency ward, Chukwu was asked to remain outside.

“He was seated right beside the emergency ward. I even brought him breakfast around 9 or 10 a.m., and he ate. Later, I went to drop off a urine sample at the lab and promised to bring him snacks on my return. But when I got back, he was gone,” Onyinye recounted.

After searching the hospital premises without success, the family assumed Chukwu might have attempted to find his way back to their home in Egbeda.

“We returned home hoping he would be there, but he never showed up. I went back to the hospital to report the incident and requested to see CCTV footage, but I was told the cameras were not working due to power issues,” she said.

The case was subsequently reported to the Sabo Police Station, but despite continued efforts, there has been no breakthrough in locating Chukwu.

According to his daughter, Chukwu has a history of hypertension and had previously suffered a stroke. While he occasionally experiences short-term memory lapses, she emphasized that he remains mentally aware and can communicate, follow directions, and move around, though at a slow pace.

“He usually remembers things shortly after forgetting them. He can talk, follow instructions, and navigate his surroundings with some effort,” she added.

As of the time this report was compiled, Chukwu remained missing.

Attempts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages to his phone went unanswered.
