A 25-year-old driver, Ayomide Oluwadamilare, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly murdering his former boss, Kola Adun, and attempting to sell the deceased’s car.
The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday. According to her, the suspect was caught in the Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos, while trying to sell Adun’s Toyota Camry.
The incident came to light after residents of River Valley Estate in the Ojodu Berger area alerted police to a foul smell coming from Adun’s residence.
“At around 1:00 p.m. on July 7, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer of the Ojodu Abiodun Division received a distress call from Akute regarding a strong odour coming from a building,” Odutola said.
When officers arrived at Ogunmoyero Street in River Valley Estate and forced their way into the apartment, they found Adun’s decomposing body on the first floor. The corpse showed clear signs of stabbing, and bloodstains were found at the scene.
Odutola explained that suspicions were initially raised a day earlier when a friend of the victim, who was meant to pick him up for Sunday service, found the gate locked from the outside. The friend was also unable to reach Adun by phone, which later switched off, prompting a call to his family and the police.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Oluwadamilare, who had previously worked as Adun’s driver, allegedly broke into the house on Saturday and fatally stabbed him before stealing his car, which bore the registration number AAA 193 GC.
The case took a turn when the suspect attempted to sell the vehicle to a dealer in Ijede, who became suspicious of his story and alerted the police, leading to Oluwadamilare’s arrest at the scene.
Odutola added that Adun’s remains have been moved to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for autopsy. The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
