A host of prominent Nigerian political figures and dignitaries have arrived in Daura, Katsina State, to pay their final respects to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as preparations for his burial proceed.

The historic town, which is Buhari’s hometown, has seen a notable increase in human and vehicular activity as crowds of citizens, political allies, government functionaries, and traditional rulers converge to honor the late statesman. Buhari, who served both as a military leader and two-term civilian president, is being laid to rest amid an outpouring of national grief.

Among the early arrivals in Daura are high-ranking politicians and former officeholders, including:

  • Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria
  • Yemi Osinbajo, former Vice President
  • Rotimi Amaechi, ex-Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State Governor
  • Aminu Bello Masari, former Governor of Katsina State
  • Aminu Tambuwal, ex-Governor of Sokoto State
  • Ahmad Lawan, former Senate President
  • Ali Isa Pantami, ex-Minister of Communications and Digital Economy
  • Ali Modu Sheriff, former Borno State Governor and one-time PDP National Chairman
  • Yahaya Bello, former Governor of Kogi State
  • Aliyu Wamakko, former Governor of Sokoto State
  • Kayode Fayemi, ex-Governor of Ekiti State and former Minister of Solid Minerals
  • Pauline Tallen, former Deputy Governor of Plateau State and ex-Minister of Women Affairs

To manage the growing crowds, security has been significantly increased across Daura, with roadblocks, diversions, and crowd control strategies implemented to maintain order.

The burial rites are expected to draw additional top dignitaries, clerics, and traditional authorities from across the country in the coming days as Nigerians bid farewell to one of the nation’s most influential figures.
