A tragic building collapse occurred on Sunday evening in the Abedi Sabon Gari area of Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to seven others.
The incident involved a three-storey structure that was still under construction. According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the collapse happened around 6:49 p.m. following heavy rainfall in the area.
Dr. Nuraddeen Abdullahi, the NEMA Coordinator for Kano Territorial Office, confirmed the development during a press briefing on Monday. He noted that the agency responded promptly after receiving an emergency alert and worked in conjunction with other relevant bodies to conduct rescue operations.
“Several people were inside the building when it came down. Some were trapped under the rubble,” he explained.
By early Monday morning, emergency teams had confirmed two fatalities and rescued six people with injuries. Later updates raised the death toll to four, with a total of seven individuals sustaining injuries.
Rescue efforts have now ended, and officials are expected to conduct a detailed structural assessment to uncover the cause of the collapse and evaluate nearby buildings for safety.
The incident has reignited discussions around the structural integrity of incomplete buildings, particularly during the rainy season in areas vulnerable to flooding.
