Two students of Government Secondary School, Bichi in Kano State, have died, and two others are receiving treatment after being allegedly attacked by senior students in one of the school’s hostels.

The school principal, Yusuf Ado Yakasai, reported the incident to the police on July 15. He said the assault occurred the previous night, July 14, at around 11:30 p.m.

According to Yakasai, a group of senior students allegedly lured four younger students into a hostel and physically assaulted them, accusing them of engaging in improper behavior.

The victims were identified as Hamza Idris (19, SS3B), Umar Yusuf (18, SS2C), Ibrahim Ibrahim (SS2B), and Aliyu M. Nasir (SS2C). They were taken to Bichi General Hospital, where Idris and Yusuf were confirmed dead. The other two students are still receiving treatment and are said to be recovering.

Police have arrested 12 students in connection with the incident. The suspects include: Suleman Abdullahi, Ahmad Sanusi, Lawan Alasan Tambai, Aliyu Idris, and Abubakar Abdulaziz (all from SS3A); Ibrahim Nura and Hamza Isiyaku (SS3B); Usaini Mamuda, Masaudu Idris, and Yasir Murtala (SS3C); and Abubakar Muhammad (SS3D).

Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing and those found responsible will be charged according to the law.
