Police in Gombe State have arrested a 19-year-old identified as Mustapha Adamu for allegedly stabbing his friend, Yahuza Labaran, to death during a confrontation on a farmland.
The incident occurred on Monday in Kulani Chessi, a village in Balanga Local Government Area.
According to reports, both friends had gone to the farm as they usually did, but around 3 p.m., a heated argument broke out between them. The reason behind the disagreement remains unclear.
During the altercation, Adamu reportedly drew a knife and stabbed 20-year-old Labaran in the shoulder, inflicting severe wounds.
Labaran was rushed to Balanga General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The spokesperson for the Gombe State Police Command, Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a phone conversation with our correspondent. He stated that police received the report on Tuesday and quickly apprehended the suspect.
“During interrogation, the suspect admitted he acted in anger and claimed he did not intend to kill his friend,” Abdullahi said, adding that an investigation is still ongoing and Adamu will be arraigned in court soon.
In a related case previously reported on June 9, a man in Ogun State was lynched by a mob after allegedly stabbing a trader, Mrs. Blessing Eze, to death. The conflict reportedly arose over unpaid festival levies, which the victim declined to pay due to financial hardship.
