The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 22-year-old man suspected of stealing four plasma televisions in the state.
In a statement released late Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, identified the suspect as Auwal Mohammed, a carpenter residing in the Sabon Railway area of Bauchi metropolis.
According to Wakil, Mohammed was employed to work at a private residence, where he allegedly came across the new 43-inch plasma televisions stored in one of the rooms. Instead of reporting his discovery, he reportedly moved the TVs to a hidden section within the same building, where they remained concealed for about two weeks.
Subsequently, the suspect is said to have transferred the televisions to a neighbour’s house for safekeeping, allegedly receiving ₦50,000 as advance payment.
Further investigations revealed that Mohammed later sold one of the televisions to a known receiver of stolen goods for ₦40,000.
The police have launched efforts to track down additional suspects believed to be involved and to recover the stolen items. Wakil confirmed that investigations are still underway and that once completed, the suspect will be properly profiled and charged in court.
