The Nigerian film industry has been hit with another tragedy following the passing of Nollywood actress Omotola Odunsi.
Her death was confirmed by fellow actor Akinola Akano, popularly known as Segbowe, who shared a heartfelt tribute on his Instagram page on Thursday. In his post, he included screenshots of their final conversation, where Omotola mentioned she was recovering from an illness.
Segbowe expressed his shock, writing:
“Motola! It’s strange—I tried to reach out to you in the early hours of that morning. You said you were fine and back! This is such a painful shock. Rest well, sister. May God comfort your family.”
Veteran actor Odunlade Adekola, under whose mentorship Omotola trained, also reacted with a brief, emotional message: “Jesus Christ. RIP Omotola.”
Omotola Odunsi featured in numerous Yoruba-language films, including Lisabi: The Uprising, Officer Adaeze, Amonata, Ayanmo Ire, and Ifedayo. Her passing marks a significant loss in the Nollywood community.
