The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of one person and injuries to five others in a lone accident that occurred in Kogi State on Friday.
The state’s Sector Commander, Kumar Tsukwam, disclosed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lokoja.
According to him, the crash happened at about 6:10 p.m. along the Lokoja–Obajana–Kabba highway after the driver, speeding excessively, lost control of the vehicle, which then somersaulted.
“Thankfully, four passengers escaped without injuries, but one life was lost and five people sustained varying degrees of injury,” Tsukwam said.
He explained that FRSC officers, in collaboration with the police, quickly evacuated the injured victims to Fisayo Hospital in Obajana for treatment. The deceased’s body was released to family members for burial, while the vehicle was secured by the police.
Tsukwam used the opportunity to caution motorists against reckless driving, stressing that overspeeding and dangerous overtaking remain major causes of accidents. He urged drivers to prioritize safety and comply with traffic rules to reduce fatalities on Nigerian roads.
