The family of a woman wrongly lynched in Ilorin, Kwara State, has demanded justice, insisting she was ill, not a kidnapper, as police launch an investigation.

The family of a woman who was wrongly lynched on Thursday at Ipata Market in Ilorin, Kwara State, has called for justice over her tragic death.

The victim, identified as Khadijah, was attacked by a mob that falsely accused her of being a kidnapper. She later died at the General Hospital in Ilorin from severe injuries sustained during the assault.

Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed her death in a statement, clarifying that the deceased was a destitute battling a long-term illness, not a criminal as alleged. An investigation has since been launched to apprehend those responsible.

Speaking anonymously, Khadijah’s sister revealed that she had struggled with a brain-related illness for years and occasionally begged for money to support herself and her children.

“She was not a kidnapper. She was only sick and trying to survive. It is heartbreaking that her condition was mistaken for crime and her life was cut short so cruelly,” she said.

The grieving family urged President Bola Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted, describing the mob action as barbaric and unjustifiable.
