Six people were rescued on Wednesday evening after a two-storey building collapsed on Modupeola Street, Mangoro, in the Alimosho area of Lagos State.

The incident happened around 6 p.m., barely two weeks after a three-storey structure collapsed on Bornu Street, Ebute Meta, claiming four lives.

In a statement on Instagram, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed that emergency officials, including personnel from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), quickly arrived at the site to carry out rescue operations.

“A two-storey building at 4 Modupeola Street, Mangoro bus stop, Alimosho collapsed at about 6 p.m. The cause is still unknown and an investigation is under way,” Omotoso said.

According to him, five victims were taken to a nearby private hospital, while another who sustained a fracture and bruises was transported by the Lagos State Ambulance Service to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for emergency care.

Omotoso added that the injured patient, a 44-year-old resident of 10 Olabode Street, Alimosho, arrived at the hospital stable and was admitted for treatment.

The collapse has once again raised public concern about enforcement of building safety rules in Lagos, a state that has witnessed multiple similar incidents. In July, for example, four people narrowly escaped death when a three-storey building on Adeniji-Adele Road, Isale Eko, partially caved in.
