The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of ignoring alleged extra-judicial killings carried out by operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred on September 30, 2025, left at least three people dead. According to the APC, rather than addressing the tragedy, the state government attempted to divert public attention with debates over local government allocations.

In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that Amotekun personnel invaded Akinlalu after two pump-action rifles were reportedly taken from their operatives by unknown persons.

Citing a police report, the party stated that Amotekun operatives stormed the community with official and private vehicles, firing shots indiscriminately. The shooting, it said, left three residents dead and several others injured. The deceased were identified as Adeagbo, two-year-old Kadijat, 60-year-old Oke-Ila Oyebamiji, and 19-year-old Fayomi Toheeb.

Community members disputed Amotekun’s version of events, insisting that the town is peaceful and not a base for criminal activities.

The APC further accused Adeleke’s administration of financial mismanagement, alleging that over ₦84 billion in local government funds had been diverted, with more than ₦60 billion spent on the Governor’s Office in the past three years. It also claimed some government officials had been questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over contract scandals involving TETFUND and UBEC funds.

Olabisi maintained that the APC would continue to provide credible opposition in the state while prioritizing grassroots governance. He recalled the February 2025 Court of Appeal ruling that reinstated APC chairmen and councillors, stressing that the PDP must now operate as the opposition at the local government level until 2028.

Meanwhile, the Amotekun Corps denied the allegations, insisting its operatives were ambushed by armed men while responding to a distress call in Akinlalu. According to its spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the operatives engaged the attackers in a gunfight on September 30.

Osun Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a full investigation into the matter. He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, for a discreet and thorough probe.
