Nigerian Afrobeats star and entrepreneur, Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has declared his ambition to run for the presidency in the future.
The “Skin Tight” hitmaker, who recently tied the knot with Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, made the announcement in a video shared via Snapchat.
According to Mr Eazi, he has been considering the idea of contesting for the presidency of an African country for some time.
“I’ve been thinking about it, and I think it’s time to share it with you all. Some of you might be from countries in Africa looking for a leader — not one driven by money or power, but someone young, forward-thinking, and capable of moving the nation forward. So, I’m officially putting myself forward for the presidency,” he said.
The singer also recounted one of his early business setbacks, revealing that he lost ₦19 million in a failed diesel supply deal at the age of 19.
In a video interview shared online, Mr Eazi explained that he had borrowed money from his uncle, a doctor, and his wife in Nigeria to start the business. His plan was to buy and supply diesel, which appeared profitable at the time.
He noted that the venture was considered reliable because it was supported by a reputable company, and many others were investing in similar deals. His team attempted to purchase diesel through agents at the Apapa Port in Lagos, since direct access to tank farms required a bulk allocation. The agents charged a small commission to handle the process.
However, just as the purchase was finalized, the government deregulated fuel prices, causing diesel costs to plummet. The funds were tied up for about three months, and a planned supply deal with MTN eventually fell through.
Despite the loss, Mr Eazi has since built a thriving career in music and business, becoming one of Africa’s most innovative entertainment entrepreneurs.
