The Edo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as TJ for allegedly murdering his wife, Queen, in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, September 30, when the suspect reportedly attacked his wife with an axe before fleeing the scene.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the couple had earlier celebrated their two-year-old son’s birthday before the shocking event took place.
“There was no sign of any disagreement between them. Everyone went to bed that night peacefully. By morning, when the couple didn’t come out, we assumed they were still asleep,” the source said. “It was their little boy who later came out of the room with bloodstains on his body. When people noticed he wasn’t hurt, they rushed inside and found the woman dead in a pool of blood, her throat slit.”
The source added that TJ was nowhere to be found after the incident, prompting residents to alert the police. Officers from the Auchi Division immediately launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Yamu, stated on Sunday in Benin that the suspect had been apprehended and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
“The suspect has been arrested and moved to the State CID for proper investigation,” Yamu said, assuring that the command would ensure justice is served.
