Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has refuted allegations by his estranged wife, Regina Daniels, that he married her when she was 17 years old. He described the claims as false, misleading, and malicious.
In a statement released on Thursday, Nwoko explained that Regina told him she was 21 years old during their first meeting and even presented her INEC voter’s card as proof, which showed her date of birth as October 10, 1998.
“For clarity, when I met Regina, she stated she was 21 and presented her voter’s card confirming that. I’ve kept that document ever since,” he said.
The lawmaker added that their marriage took place six years ago, making Regina 27 years old by all verifiable records. He dismissed any suggestion that she was a minor at the time of their marriage.
Nwoko also alleged that Regina’s recent statements were influenced by her mental health struggles and an abandoned rehabilitation process for drug addiction.
“The facts are verifiable. I urge the public to treat her claims with caution, considering her ongoing struggle with substance abuse,” he stated.
The public dispute between the couple escalated after Regina accused Nwoko of introducing her to drugs for his personal pleasure—an allegation he denied, blaming her brother, Sammy Daniels, for her drug use and failed rehabilitation attempts.
Their marital crisis has since drawn public attention, especially after Sammy’s arrest and detention in Abuja. Regina later revealed that the family turmoil led to the reconciliation of her estranged parents.
