The Imo State Police Command has announced the upcoming arraignment of five men accused of violently attacking a 55-year-old woman, Mrs. Ndidiamaka Agu, in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, revealed the update on Monday in Owerri. He explained that the investigation followed a directive issued by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, after a video of the assault went viral on November 3, 2025.
According to Okoye, five out of the six suspects involved have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the sixth man, who remains at large.
The arrested suspects were identified as:
- Onyekachi Njoku (40)
- Chiazor Osuji (45)
- Chukwuma Iwuala (46)
- Eugene Njoku
- Njoku Emmanuel (35)
All five are natives of Uboegbelu in Emekuku.
The disturbing footage circulating online showed the men repeatedly beating Mrs. Agu, ignoring pleas from another woman who attempted to intervene. The assailants also attempted to attack the woman recording the incident and reportedly tried to break into her home.
Okoye confirmed that the police’s X-Squad Unit carried out the arrests and that the suspects have confessed to participating in the assault.
He added that the sixth suspect, identified as Onyedikachi Njoku, is still on the run, and officers are intensifying efforts to track him down.
Commissioner Danjuma condemned the attack, describing it as unacceptable and stressing that no citizen should be victimized for cooperating with law enforcement.
A source familiar with the case revealed that Mrs. Agu had assisted police officers in an investigation involving the suspects, prompting them to storm her home and beat her severely.
The police assured that the arrested men will soon be brought before the court to face appropriate criminal charges.
