The Ogun State Police Command has deployed a tactical unit to Ajebo in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area following a viral video claiming that herdsmen were planning an attack on the community.
In a statement released in Abeokuta, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said the command had investigated the alarm and found no threat to residents. She added that the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, ordered a security team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) to assess the situation.
According to the statement, the police carried out a joint operation with the Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, local hunters, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria. Investigations revealed that the Fulani settlers identified in the video were not new arrivals but long-time peaceful residents of the area.
The operatives found no weapons and reported that women and children were occupying the shelters, while most of the adult men were away in Oyo State on trading activities consistent with their usual livelihood. The investigation also confirmed the existence of an established RUGA settlement said to have been in place for over 10 years.
The traditional ruler of Ajebo, Oba Rueben Oluwole, who reportedly approved land for the settlers, has been invited to clarify the matter. Security teams will continue surveillance around a forest located about 10 kilometres from the community as a precaution.
The police urged the public to stay calm, remain vigilant, and stop spreading unverified claims that could incite fear.
