Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has formally become a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), months after publicly announcing his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He completed his registration and received his membership card at the ADC office in the U/Sarki Ward of Kaduna State.
El-Rufai’s decision marks a major shift in his political path. When he resigned from the APC on March 10, he stated that the party had moved away from the ideals that guided its formation. He accused the leadership of ignoring internal issues and abandoning the progressive values it once upheld.
According to him, he repeatedly raised concerns for two years—both openly and behind the scenes—about what he believed was a troubling direction for the party, but those warnings were dismissed.
El-Rufai, a key participant in the 2013 opposition merger that created the APC, said the party had strayed from its founding vision. He noted that recent developments suggested that those in control were unwilling to confront or correct what he described as an unhealthy internal climate.
His move to join the ADC signals the start of a new political chapter and is expected to boost the party’s influence in Kaduna State as political realignments continue ahead of upcoming elections.
