A police constable was killed and another officer injured after unknown armed men attacked the official residence of the Divisional Police Officer in Aujara, located in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The attackers, suspected to be armed herders, stormed the residence around midnight and overpowered the officers on duty. Police Constable Nura Garba Jahun died from his injuries at Jahun General Hospital and has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
Family members expressed shock over the killing. His father, Malam Garba Jahun, described him as a disciplined and gentle young officer who had only recently joined the force. He added that the family is still awaiting clearer details from police authorities.
Sources in the community reported that nothing was stolen from the scene, raising further questions about the motive behind the attack.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shi’isu Adam, said he had not yet received official briefing on the incident.
The District Head of Aujara, Alhaji Aminu Dankade, also confirmed the killing, offering prayers for the deceased in a public statement.
Police authorities are expected to launch a full investigation to uncover those responsible.
