Armed bandits responsible for Sunday’s attack on the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, have reportedly contacted the family of the abducted pastor to demand a ransom of N500 million.

According to family sources, the kidnappers are seeking the large sum for the release of the pastor—popularly known as Orlando—and several worshippers seized during the violent raid on November 30, 2025.

Authorities have not confirmed any official negotiations. However, security agencies are said to be closely monitoring the situation.

Following the attack, the Kogi State Government launched both aerial and ground search operations. Video footage shared online shows a state-deployed helicopter and anti-kidnapping operatives combing the surrounding areas in pursuit of the attackers.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, condemned the incident, describing the assault as “deeply disturbing and unacceptable.” He stated that efforts were underway to ensure the safe rescue of all victims.

Fanwo added that intelligence from residents could have prevented the attack, warning communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements.

He criticised the decision to hold church services in isolated areas without security support, especially weeks after a similar abduction occurred in a church in Kwara State.

The commissioner noted that the state government and the Yagba West Local Government Council had been intensifying efforts to combat criminal activities in the region, which is considered highly vulnerable due to its border location.
