Suspected bandits invaded Idi community in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Monday evening, sparking fear and panic among residents.
Witnesses said the armed men entered the village in broad daylight and fired repeated gunshots, forcing villagers to abandon their homes and flee to safer areas.
The incident was first made public through a post by Bakatsine on X (formerly Twitter), which alerted authorities to the presence of the attackers in the community. The post noted that Idi village is the ancestral home of the Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idris Muhammad Gobir, a fact that has further intensified public concern.
Sabon-Birni Local Government Area, which shares a border with Zamfara State, has long been troubled by banditry, cattle rustling, and mass kidnappings, despite repeated assurances from security agencies and the state government.
The latest attack has renewed anxiety over the worsening security situation in the eastern part of Sokoto State, with residents expressing fears over the apparent ease with which armed groups operate in the area.
As of the time this report was filed, it was unclear whether there were casualties or abductions during the invasion. Security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
