The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody a 20-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, widely known online as Peller, following allegations of attempted suicide and dangerous driving that led to a serious road accident in Lagos.

The arrest came after a video circulated on social media on Sunday, December 14, 2025, showing Hamzat driving recklessly on a public road while live-streaming the act. Police said the stunt resulted in a major crash and exposed both the suspect and other road users to grave danger.

According to the command, the influencer’s conduct amounted to a deliberate life-threatening act and a clear violation of public safety laws.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, the police confirmed that Hamzat is currently being detained and investigated. The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for an in-depth inquiry.

Police authorities said the outcome of the investigation would be made public and that the suspect would be arraigned before a competent court once investigations are concluded.

The Commissioner of Police warned social media influencers and content creators against promoting reckless or unlawful behaviour for online engagement, stressing that such actions threaten public peace and can result in avoidable loss of life.

He reiterated that the command would enforce the law without compromise against anyone found guilty of endangering lives or disrupting public order.

The police also advised motorists to obey traffic regulations at all times, reaffirming their commitment to protecting lives and maintaining safety across Lagos State.
