The Sokoto State Government has confirmed that a joint air operation carried out by the Nigerian military in partnership with the United States struck designated terrorist hideouts in Tangaza Local Government Area, with no reports of civilian casualties.
The confirmation was made in a statement released on Friday by the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House in Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa.
According to the statement, the operation took place on Wednesday as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks operating within Sokoto State and along Nigeria’s northwestern corridor. Authorities noted that a detailed assessment of the strike was still in progress, as reports from the joint operational team had not yet been fully compiled.
The government also addressed concerns surrounding suspicious items reportedly discovered near Jabo town in Tambuwal Local Government Area. It explained that investigations were ongoing, with findings expected after a thorough analysis by Nigeria–US military authorities.
Bawa emphasised that available information confirmed there were no civilian casualties in both Tangaza and Jabo communities.
Reiterating its support for international security partnerships, the Sokoto State Government described collaboration with global partners, including the United States, as essential in addressing terrorism and cross-border crimes.
The statement further highlighted the state’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that the government has consistently provided logistical and operational support to security agencies over the past two years to strengthen security across the state.
Residents of affected areas were urged to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies by sharing credible intelligence that could aid ongoing operations.
The government also called on citizens to support both state and federal authorities in their efforts to restore lasting peace, while appealing for prayers for the success of security forces confronting criminal elements in the state.
The joint airstrike comes amid intensified military campaigns across Nigeria’s North-West region, targeting armed groups involved in terrorism, banditry, and cross-border criminal activities.
