At least three people were killed and three others abducted during a late-night attack by suspected bandits on Bundu Kahugu community in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The assault reportedly took place around 11 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, plunging the community into grief and renewing concerns over persistent insecurity in the area.
Confirming the incident, the National Secretary of the Bundu Kahugu community, Ishaya Dauda, said the attackers invaded the village under the cover of darkness, firing shots indiscriminately and causing panic among residents.
Dauda noted that the incident marked the second attack on the community in less than two weeks. He recalled that a previous raid had occurred recently, during which four residents were killed.
According to him, three people died instantly in the latest attack, while three others were taken away by the assailants. The deceased were identified as Felix Augustine, Luka Yakubu, and Ezra Namata.
Following the incident, residents appealed to the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to urgently deploy military personnel to the community to prevent further attacks.
They also called on telecommunication service providers to improve network coverage in the area, explaining that poor communication has made it easier for attackers to strike and escape without resistance.
Dauda stressed that improved security presence and reliable communication facilities were critical to safeguarding lives in the community.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain a response from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful.
