Popular Nigerian gospel artiste Bunmi Akinnanu, widely recognised for her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” has passed away.
News of her death broke on Tuesday evening through a close associate of the singer. As of the time of this report, her family has not released an official statement, with more details expected in the coming days.
Akinnanu’s death comes months after she openly sought prayers and spiritual support while battling a serious leg ailment. In late 2025, a video from a church service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, circulated widely online. In the footage, the singer was seen seated with her leg stretched out as prayers were offered for her healing.
During the service, the officiating cleric revealed that the gospel singer had been experiencing persistent bleeding in her leg, a disclosure that intensified public concern. The video quickly gained traction on social media, prompting fans and well-wishers across the country to organise prayer sessions and share messages of encouragement.
Despite the public attention, the exact medical details surrounding her condition were never officially disclosed.
Bunmi Akinnanu began her musical journey at the age of 10 before later leaving a career in banking to pursue gospel music full-time. She rose to national prominence with “Omije Ojumi,” a deeply emotional song that resonated with many listeners. Over the years, she released several other gospel tracks, earning respect and admiration within Nigeria’s gospel music community.
