The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps in Oye Local Government Area has arrested 16 suspected bandits believed to have traveled from Kwara State with plans to move into Ekiti on Wednesday.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the Command’s Director of Information, Mr. Adeleye. He explained that the suspects were seen in large numbers with their cattle at the Gede Farm settlement in Isan-Ekiti, which triggered fear among residents. In response, Amotekun officers from nearby posts were deployed to the area and successfully apprehended the group in Oye Local Government Area.
During questioning, the suspects reportedly admitted that they fled Kwara State due to intensified security operations against banditry. They also confessed to participating in cattle rustling activities, mainly targeting communities in Kwara.
Items recovered from them included cash, seven mobile phones, assorted charms, three Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) identification cards, and several cattle.
The suspects have been handed over to the Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command in Ado-Ekiti for further investigation and possible prosecution.
