Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed rumors that he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that he remains firmly committed to the party despite recent political shifts across the country.
The governor made this clarification after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, where he was questioned about speculations triggered by recent defections of some PDP leaders to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Makinde stated that he has no intention of joining the APC and reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP. He emphasized that his political stance remains unchanged.
According to him, there are moments when national challenges require collaboration across party lines, noting that governance should not be limited to a single party’s perspective. He stressed that bipartisan cooperation is necessary when the country’s interests are at stake.
The governor added that achieving progress sometimes requires collective input from all political stakeholders, regardless of party affiliation.
His remarks highlight his openness to cross-party dialogue while maintaining his political base within the Peoples Democratic Party, rejecting any immediate plans to move to the All Progressives Congress.
Reports also noted that Makinde visited the Presidential Villa shortly after Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who recently switched allegiance from the PDP to the APC.
