Bandits who abducted worshippers during a church service in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State have demanded a ransom of ₦250 million and 20 motorcycles for their release.

The Village Head of Kurmin Wali, Ishaku Dan’azumi, disclosed the development while speaking with journalists on Monday night. He explained that the kidnappers issued the demand following the mass abduction that occurred on January 17, 2026, when armed attackers invaded three churches in the community—Cherubim and Seraphim Church 1 and 2, and the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA).

According to Dan’azumi, the bandits accused the community of stealing 17 motorcycles that were allegedly lost during recent military operations in the area. They also claimed that residents removed parts from the remaining motorcycles.

He noted that more than 100 worshippers were still in captivity nine days after the incident, causing fear and anxiety among residents and religious leaders.

Security agencies and government officials have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to secure the victims’ safe release. A security source revealed that authorities had located the kidnappers’ camp but said the abductees were reportedly being used as human shields to discourage air strikes.

“The security team, including operatives from multiple agencies, is working tirelessly to rescue the victims without harm,” the source said.

Attempts to obtain a response from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the time of reporting.
