United States President Donald Trump has claimed that recent American military operations in Nigeria significantly reduced attacks on Christian communities and led to the elimination of key terrorist leaders.
Speaking during a public event, Trump said the strikes targeted terrorist groups responsible for repeated attacks on Christian populations, adding that the operation disrupted their activities and weakened their leadership.
According to him, thousands of Christians, including women, children and elderly people, had been victims of violent attacks before the intervention. He claimed the military action forced the militants to retreat out of fear of further strikes.
Trump also stated that the operation resulted in the deaths of the group’s top three leaders, describing it as a major success in the fight against terrorism.
Drawing a comparison with recent U.S. military actions against Iran, the president said his administration remains committed to using military force where necessary to address security threats and protect vulnerable communities.
He maintained that defending Christians facing persecution forms part of his broader foreign policy agenda, adding that terrorist groups would continue to be pursued wherever they operate.
While referring to recent military strikes in Nigeria, Trump did not disclose the exact locations of the operations or identify the specific terrorist organisation targeted.
His remarks came shortly after the United States reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security cooperation with Nigeria through improved military strategy, operational planning and defence collaboration aimed at tackling terrorism and insurgency.
