Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed that the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area remains the highest priority of his administration.
Drivetvnews gathered In a statement issued on Friday, the governor said security agencies are carrying out coordinated operations to secure the victims’ release, with the state government providing full support to ensure the success of the rescue mission.
Makinde disclosed that a temporary 16-hour curfew has been imposed in 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park to strengthen security operations and improve the effectiveness of the ongoing search efforts. He urged residents in the affected areas to cooperate with security personnel throughout the exercise.
The governor also assured residents that the state is making adequate preparations for the safe reopening of schools despite the current security challenges. He stressed that every necessary measure would be taken to protect pupils, teachers, and surrounding communities while ensuring that education is not disrupted indefinitely.
Makinde further revealed that the state’s surveillance aircraft is in the final stages of delivery. He explained that additional technical and regulatory procedures have slightly delayed its arrival beyond the initial June timeline, but the aircraft will be fully ready for immediate deployment once delivered.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening public safety, education, infrastructure, and other strategic investments, assuring residents that the government will continue to provide updates on both the rescue operation and the surveillance aircraft project.
