The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a woman, Nafisat Lateef, over the alleged poisoning of a three-year-old boy in Omifon community, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, who is said to be the child’s landlady, was reportedly taken into custody after she allegedly gave the boy a liquid substance believed to be poisonous.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident occurred after a disagreement between the suspect and the child’s mother, identified as Rofiat.
According to the police, the 40-year-old woman allegedly carried out the act on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, at about 8:30am, shortly after the argument.
Jimoh stated that the suspect allegedly gave the child, Abdulrasheed, the substance, after which the boy began vomiting.
He explained that the child was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he received medical attention.
The police spokesperson added that detectives swung into action following the report and arrested the suspect during an intelligence-driven operation.
He further disclosed that the substance suspected to be poison was recovered during the investigation.
Jimoh noted that the suspect is currently in custody and has made useful statements, while investigations are ongoing.
He added that the case would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
