The lawyer representing Mirabel, the TikTok user involved in a widely discussed sexual assault allegation, has urged the public to remain patient while the police complete their investigation.
The legal representative, Taofeek Akinbo, made this appeal in a series of posts on X, where he confirmed that he is acting as counsel for the content creator. He emphasized that the matter is being handled carefully and in line with due process.
Akinbo appealed to the public to avoid speculation and allow law enforcement authorities to conclude their work. He stated that the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Gender and Rape Allied Matters Unit of the Zone 2 Area Command in Abeokuta, Ogun State, is conducting a thorough investigation.
He also commended the police for what he described as a professional and orderly approach to the case, adding that updates would be shared once the investigative process is concluded.
The case has attracted significant attention on social media, sparking intense public debate.
Earlier reports indicated that the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that Mirabel had been discharged from the hospital but remained with the police as investigations continued. The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, explained in an interview that Mirabel voluntarily presented herself at the Ibafo Police Division.
According to the police spokesperson, officers initially found her unable to provide a clear account of events, prompting them to seek immediate medical attention for her at a state hospital, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Babaseyi clarified that Mirabel was not arrested at any point. Instead, she reported the matter voluntarily, and her wellbeing has been treated as a priority. The police are working to determine the accuracy of the allegations.
The controversy began after Mirabel, known on TikTok as @mirab351, posted an emotional video claiming she had been sexually assaulted in her apartment. The video quickly went viral, drawing widespread reactions and calls for justice.
Initial discussions suggested the incident occurred in Lagos State. However, preliminary findings later indicated that the alleged incident took place in Ogijo, Ogun State, placing the case under the jurisdiction of the Ogun State Police Command.
Authorities have reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information while the process continues.
