At least two people have been killed, a trader abducted, and a young girl injured following an attack by suspected terrorists in Gbugbu community, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The assault occurred on Sunday evening when heavily armed gunmen reportedly invaded the community, firing shots into the air and causing widespread panic. Residents fled their homes as the sound of gunfire echoed across the area.
During the attack, a trader identified as Rilwan Bello was abducted. Bello, who operates a shop near the popular Ezigbo Store in the community, was taken away by the assailants. His sales assistant was shot and killed at the scene before the attackers escaped into nearby bushes with the trader.
Local sources also confirmed that another man from the Dukawa community lost his life in the incident. In addition, a young girl sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital.
Community members later discovered another body after the attackers had fled, raising concerns that the death toll could increase.
This is not the first time Gbugbu and surrounding communities have experienced such violence. In July 2025, gunmen reportedly attacked the same area, kidnapping a well-known businessman, Alhaji Yau. The attackers also struck Guye Dadi, where they abducted the wife of another prominent figure after failing to find him at home. Ekko village was similarly targeted during the wave of attacks, leaving one person dead and another abducted.
Residents say the repeated incidents have heightened fear in the area and are calling for improved security measures to protect lives and property.
