US President Donald Trump has stated that the ongoing military engagement with Iran may continue for up to four weeks.
“From the start, we expected it could take about four weeks,” Trump said in a telephone interview with the Daily Mail on Sunday. “It’s a large country, so it may take four weeks—or even less.”
The conflict has already resulted in the deaths of three US soldiers, with five others sustaining serious injuries during the operation. Iran has carried out counterattacks targeting US military bases in the Gulf and other strategic locations.
Trump paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, describing them as “great people,” and warned that such casualties could occur again as the situation develops. “We anticipate this may happen continuously. Unfortunately, that is the reality of war,” he added.
Echoing Trump’s assessment, Eyal Zamir, chief of staff of the Israeli military, said that Israel achieved “significant results” in Iran during the first 48 hours of operations. He also cautioned that “many more days of fighting lie ahead.”
