Kayode Amusan, a cleric based in Ibadan, Oyo State, popularly known as Agbala Gabriel, is currently facing allegations of sexual misconduct and mismanagement of donations meant for people in need.
For several years, the pastor built a strong online presence as a compassionate religious leader who regularly organised fundraising campaigns to support sick and vulnerable individuals. Videos of him praying for struggling families and appealing for financial assistance frequently circulated on social media, earning him praise from many Nigerians who viewed his ministry as charitable and supportive.
However, his reputation has recently come under scrutiny following a series of allegations spreading across platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. The claims include accusations related to the handling of donations for a sick woman and allegations that he fathered twins with a former church backup singer.
One of the controversies involves a woman identified as Morenikeji, who reportedly suffered from a spinal condition. Her case had earlier attracted public donations for medical treatment.
In a viral video, Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola explained that she had previously helped raise funds for the woman’s surgery. According to her, the amount raised was not sufficient, and the family later approached the pastor for further assistance.
Daramola said she decided to withdraw from the effort after learning that the woman had been placed under the cleric’s care. She later alleged that the pastor did not fulfil promises to provide proper accommodation and medical support for the patient.
The woman’s daughter also claimed that she eventually removed her mother from the cleric’s care because she was dissatisfied with how the situation was being handled.
While that issue was still generating debate online, another allegation surfaced. A blogger known as Iyalaje Courtroom claimed during a live broadcast that the pastor had been involved in questionable relationships with women and had also mismanaged donations.
According to the blogger, one of the women involved was a former backup singer in the church identified as Bolu. She alleged that the pastor had a relationship with the woman when she was about 23 years old, which later resulted in pregnancy and the birth of twins.
The blogger claimed the cleric initially denied responsibility but later accepted the children and reportedly rented a house for the woman and the twins.
A charity advocate, Princess Adeyinka, also supported the claim, saying she personally intervened when the issue first surfaced and urged the pastor to accept responsibility.
As the allegations continue to circulate widely online, reactions have been divided. Some supporters argue that the pastor’s years of charitable activities should not be overlooked, while critics are calling for greater transparency and accountability.
Responding to the accusations, Agbala Gabriel denied the claims and insisted they were attempts to tarnish his reputation.
He said the allegations were part of a pattern often used to discredit prominent religious leaders, adding that many well-known pastors frequently face similar accusations on social media.
