Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, have arrived in Maiduguri after a series of bomb explosions that caused multiple casualties.
The attacks, which occurred on Monday evening in Borno State, reportedly left 23 people dead and injured over 100 others. The senior military officials touched down at the Maiduguri Air Force Base on Wednesday, where they were received by top commanders, including the leadership of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai.
Their visit follows a directive from Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who ordered security chiefs to relocate to the state and take charge of the situation in response to the attacks.
In a statement, the president expressed condolences to the victims and their families, while praising the armed forces for resisting coordinated assaults on military positions in the region. He described the attacks as desperate acts by terrorist elements under sustained pressure from security operations.
Tinubu also instructed emergency response agencies to ensure that those injured receive adequate medical care.
The arrival of the service chiefs signals intensified efforts by the military to stabilise the situation and strengthen security operations in the affected areas.
