Four people have lost their lives in a late-night road accident along the Ijebu-Imushin stretch of the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway in Ogun State.
The crash, which occurred around 11 p.m. on Monday, involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a MAN Diesel truck owned by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
According to the spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, the accident happened at about 11:16 p.m.
She explained that the bus collided with the truck, which had been left stationary on the road after the chain towing it snapped. The speeding bus then rammed into the immobilised vehicle.
All four occupants of the bus—two men and two women—were confirmed dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The official added that the driver of the towing vehicle fled immediately after the incident, leaving the truck behind.
Emergency responders from the FRSC arrived at the scene within minutes of receiving the alert. The victims’ bodies were later evacuated to a morgue at a state hospital in Ijebu Ode.
Officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Imushin Division have taken custody of the vehicles and begun an investigation into the crash.
The Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, urged drivers to obey speed limits, especially at night, and ensure that towing equipment is properly secured to prevent similar incidents.
In a related development, another road accident earlier in March at Aiyetoro Junction in the Epe area of Lagos State claimed one life and left three others injured after a truck collided with a commercial tricycle while attempting a U-turn.
