Gunmen launched an attack on a convoy in Kwara State on Tuesday, killing two hunters in the Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The victims were part of a group transporting the bodies of three fellow hunters from Oro-Ago to Oke-Oyan for burial when the incident occurred just a few kilometres from their destination.
According to a community source, the convoy was ambushed as it approached Oke-Oyan. However, a swift response from local security personnel—including forest guards, police officers, and other hunters—helped to limit the number of casualties.
The two hunters who lost their lives were taken back to a mortuary in Oro-Ago, while the convoy later resumed its journey under heavy security escort to complete the burial of the deceased.
This latest attack adds to rising security concerns in the area. Just days earlier, gunmen had reportedly invaded a church within the same local government area, abducting several worshippers, although some were later rescued.
Security stakeholders in the Kwara South region have continued to warn of possible further attacks, urging authorities to strengthen measures aimed at protecting lives and property.
