The Lagos State Government has intervened in a child abuse case, rescuing an 11-year-old boy who was reportedly subjected to repeated physical harm by his mother.
In a statement, the Lagos State Bureau of Public Defender (BPD) disclosed that the child suffered ongoing abuse involving the use of electric cables and other objects, which resulted in multiple injuries.
Upon receiving the report, the agency alerted the police, prompting an investigation by officers at the Nigeria Police Force, Igbogbo Division in Ikorodu. The probe led to the arrest of the child’s mother, who has since been charged to court.
The case has been presented before a Magistrate Court in Ikorodu. Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that the child has been removed from the harmful environment and placed in a secure government facility where he is receiving care and protection.
The suspect has been remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.
Officials reiterated their commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and ensuring that cases of abuse are promptly addressed.
