A resident of Ogbomoso has appealed to the judiciary to urgently deliver a verdict in the prolonged dispute over the position of Grand Chief Imam, warning that continued delays are deepening divisions within the community.
Alhaji Rasak Adedigba, an indigene from the Aresejowi Masifa area, expressed concern that the case has remained unresolved for about three years, describing the situation as harmful to peace and unity in the town.
He noted that a final court decision would bring clarity and allow residents to move forward, as many are waiting for an authoritative resolution to the leadership dispute.
According to him, the prolonged legal process has triggered widespread tension across the community, affecting relationships, religious harmony, and even long-standing social groups. He lamented that the crisis has caused divisions among families, traders, and organisations, some of which have existed for decades.
Adedigba urged the presiding judge to accelerate proceedings and avoid entertaining unnecessary delays from parties involved in the case. He criticised repeated adjournments linked to excuses such as the absence of legal representatives or witnesses, insisting that such tactics should no longer be tolerated.
He warned that the continued delay could further destabilise the town, stressing that timely justice is essential to restoring order and unity. He also called on the Oyo State Judiciary to prioritise the case, given its significance to the peace of the community.
Adedigba added that the matter might have been resolved earlier if it had not been tied up in court, urging the judiciary to consider the broader impact of the delay. He expressed confidence that all parties would accept the outcome once a final judgement is delivered.
