A tragic accident in Aramoko-Ekiti has claimed the life of a 300-level student of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti after a truck crashed into a residential building.
The victim, identified as Promise Farotimi, a 21-year-old student of Building Technology, was reportedly asleep when the heavy-duty vehicle rammed into their home in the Oke-Ila area over the weekend.
The incident not only led to his death but also left his family without shelter. His father, Rufus Farotimi, described the situation as a devastating loss, saying he had lost both his son and his home in a single घटना.
According to him, the truck driver fled immediately after the crash, while residents managed to apprehend the driver’s assistant, commonly referred to as an “operator boy.”
Documents reportedly recovered from the vehicle, including waybills, indicated that the truck was transporting natural gypsum and identified the driver as Shuaibu Yusuf through company records.
Although authorities promptly removed the victim’s remains and launched an investigation, the bereaved father expressed concern that the driver remained at large days after the incident. He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest the suspect and urged the company linked to the truck to take responsibility for the damage and loss.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, said the case has been transferred to the Traffic Section for a thorough investigation.
