A member of the National Youth Service Corps, Haruna Ibrahim, has been killed during renewed violence in the Anguwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday—the same day he was expected to participate in his Passing Out Parade, marking the completion of his national service.

According to a resident, Peter Ganchok, the corps member was attacked during a wave of retaliatory violence in the community. He alleged that Ibrahim was assaulted and killed by a group of angry youths following an earlier attack by unidentified gunmen.

Ganchok described the development as deeply tragic, noting that the victim, who served under the Sports Community Development Service in Jos, lost his life just as he was about to complete his service year.

The killing comes amid rising tension in parts of Jos, particularly in Anguwan Rukuba, where recent clashes have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.

Earlier reports indicated growing fear among residents and students of the University of Jos, with distress messages circulating online calling for urgent intervention by security agencies.

Concerned individuals and groups have urged authorities to strengthen security presence in affected areas to prevent further escalation. The university’s alumni association also raised alarm over threats to students and staff, calling for increased patrols, intelligence-based monitoring, and rapid response measures.

The situation has been further complicated by reports of attacks on properties, including a church in the area, with eyewitnesses describing scenes of chaos that forced many residents to flee.

Although security personnel have been deployed to parts of the city, many residents continue to express concern over what they describe as delayed responses and inadequate protection.

As of the time of reporting, authorities have yet to issue an official statement confirming the incident.

The killing highlights the growing insecurity in Plateau communities, where recurring violence has left many residents living in fear.
