Armed bandits launched coordinated attacks on communities in Katsina State on Easter Sunday, leaving at least three police officers dead.
The incident occurred in Tangani and Sayaya villages, located within Musawa and Matazu Local Government Areas. The casualties were disclosed by Lawal Batagarawa, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress in the state and a former Minister of State for Education, during a briefing with journalists.
Batagarawa expressed concern over the continued loss of lives, particularly across northern Nigeria, describing the situation as deeply troubling. He extended condolences to affected communities, noting that the attacks also impacted nearby villages.
He stressed that insecurity has become a recurring crisis not only in Katsina State but also in other states such as Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, and Plateau.
Calling for urgent action, he urged the Federal and state governments to fulfill their primary responsibility of protecting lives and property. According to him, failure to guarantee security threatens societal stability and could lead to widespread disorder.
He also sympathised with residents of the affected areas and the Nigeria Police Force over the loss of officers, praying for comfort for the families of the victims.
As of the time of reporting, authorities had not released an official statement confirming the number of casualties.
