Police in Ogun State have arrested a man identified as Oluwadamilare Ewedemi over allegations of repeatedly sexually abusing his 21-year-old daughter and causing multiple pregnancies, which were reportedly terminated.
According to the victim, who chose to remain anonymous, the abuse began in 2019 and continued for several years. She alleged that her father was responsible for five pregnancies and arranged abortions each time.
The woman explained that after losing her mother at a young age, she was placed in a motherless home in Ikeja by her father. She later returned to live with him in Ijebu Ode under the guise of parental care, where the alleged abuse started.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the case was reported at the Ifo Division. He stated that the victim managed to escape from her father’s residence on February 1, 2026, due to ongoing harassment and sought refuge at a church in the Pakoto area.
She later reported the matter to the police, prompting an investigation. Officers subsequently arrested the suspect following a tip-off.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect is currently in custody, while the case has been transferred to the Gender Desk for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Authorities also assured the public that a thorough inquiry is underway and urged residents to report cases of abuse and seek lawful means of resolving conflicts.
