Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have apprehended 16 individuals allegedly involved in terrorising residents of Minna, the state capital.
The arrests were made during a late-night house-to-house operation carried out around 2 a.m. The suspects were reportedly found with weapons including cutlasses, a saw, a sickle, and sticks.
Among those arrested are Najeem Yakubu and Zakari Hussaini from Kuta Road, Idris Saidu from Sabongari, Naziru Kabiru from Angwan-Sarki, Shehu Sulaiman from Ogbomosho Road, and Anas Abubakar from Kotun-Bola, among others.
According to police authorities, the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further inquiry and prosecution.
The spokesperson for the command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the development in a statement, explaining that the operation targeted individuals accused of disturbing peace in areas such as Angwan-Sarki and Ogbomosho.
Recovered items from the suspects include two cutlasses, one sickle, one saw, and three sticks. Police authorities assured that all those arrested will face legal action upon the conclusion of investigations.
